چکیده

In this paper we propose a certification technique for noninterference of Java programs based on rewriting logic, a very general logical and semantic framework efficiently implemented in the high-level programming language Maude. Non–interference is a semantic program property that prevents illicit information flow to happen. Starting from a basic specification of the semantics of Java written in Maude, we develop an information–flow extension of this operational Java semantics which allows us to observe non-interference of Java programs. Then we develop in Maude an abstract, finite-state version of the information-flow operational semantics which supports finite program verification. As a by–product of the verification, a certificate of non-interference is delivered which consists of a set of (abstract) rewriting proofs that can be easily checked by the code consumer using a standard rewriting logic engine.

A Tool for Automated Certification of Java Source Code in Maude

In previous work, an abstract certification technique for Java source code was proposed based on rewriting logic, which is a semantic framework that has been efficiently implemented in the rule–based programming language Maude. Starting from a specification of a (generic) Java abstract semantics written in Maude, we develop an abstract verification technique that essentially consists of a reach...

Abstract Certification of Global Non-interference in Rewriting Logic

Non–interference is a semantic program property that assigns confidentiality levels to data objects and prevents illicit information flows from occurring from high to low security levels. In this paper, we present a novel security model for global non–interference which approximates non–interference as a safety property. We also propose a certification technique for global non-interference of c...

An Empirical Evaluation of Automated Theorem Provers in Software Certification

We describe a system for the automated certification of safety properties of NASA software. The system uses Hoare-style program verification technology to generate proof obligations which are then processed by an automated first-order theorem prover (ATP). We discuss the unique requirements this application places on the ATPs, focusing on automation, proof checking, traceability, and usability,...

Using Automated Theorem Provers to Certify Auto-generated Aerospace Software

We describe a system for the automated certification of safety properties of NASA software. The system uses Hoare-style program verification technology to generate proof obligations which are then processed by an automated first-order theorem prover (ATP). For full automation, however, the obligations must be aggressively preprocessed and simplified. We describe the unique requirements this pla...

Automatic Certification of Java Source Code in Rewriting Logic

In this paper we propose an abstract certification technique for Java which is based on rewriting logic, a very general logical and semantic framework efficiently implemented in the functional programming language Maude. Starting from a specification of the Java semantics written in Maude, we develop an abstract, finite-state operational semantics also written in Maude which is appropriate for ...
